Rod MacLeod is a Certified Associate of the Institute of Bankers. After qualifying, he joined Barclays Bank and was promoted into Barclays Merchant Bank in 1982 before being seconded to its London office in 1985. On his return to South Africa in 1988 Rod was appointed as senior advisor at FirstCorp, handling mergers and acquisitions, management buy-outs and private equity opportunities. In 1990, Rod joined AP&CI where he was responsible for the Group's growth strategy and acquisitions. He joined Janus as a Director and shareholder in 1995.
Head of Corporate Finance, South Africa
In the last 15 years, Chartered Accountant Michael Burrell has held senior positions in many leading South African banks and corporate finance advisory firms and has been involved in numerous transactions around the world. He began his career as one of the early members of the now listed Mercantile Bank. On leaving Mercantile, he joined the listed New Republic Bank Limited as an Executive Director where for four years he was responsible for corporate finance, investment banking, treasury and corporate lending. During this period, Michael also obtained his Diploma in Advanced Banking from the University of Johannesburg, deepening his understanding of the banking industry and its regulations on both an academic level and a practical level.
Jayne Backhouse, BBus Sci
Jayne first joined the Imara Group in 2003 as part of Imara Corporate Finance (Zimbabwe). She left Imara in 2005 for London, where she furthered her career in corporate finance, working for a total of three years for two firms, Bridgewell (bought out by Landsbanki) and Altium Capital. She rejoined Imara Corporate Finance in December 2008 and has experience in both mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets, across a range of sectors.

Tawanda joined Imara Corporate Finance from KPMG Chartered Accountants (Zimbabwe) in August 2010. At KPMG he worked in the Corporate Finance and Transaction Services as an analyst where he was part of a team that advised domestic and international companies on transaction aspects ranging from valuations and investment licence applications and due diligence reviews on listed and unlisted Zimbabwean companies. His sectors experience includes; FMCG, Agro-Processing, Telecoms, Insurance and Banking. Tawanda graduated from Murdoch University in February 2006, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Finance and Banking
